The Royal Box Company is founded in 1922 by several Nerenberg siblings, including oldest sister Molly who was first in the family to emigrate to the United Sates from Eastern Europe in the early part of the century.
The company makes wooden boxes and pallets for the growing manufacturing industry in Chicago.
The Royal Box Company merges with family members owning the Continental Box Company to form the Royal Continental Box Company. This move helps the company survive the aftermath of the Great Depression.
The Royal Continental Box Company starts to manufacture corrugated boxes due to new technology that combines two liners of paper with a fluted medium to provide packaging that competes with wooden boxes.
Ammunition for World War II is shipped in Royal boxes.
Jordan Nerenberg, with his brother Jerry and cousin Leo, assume leadership of the company
Royal moves from buying corrugated sheets to making its own sheets with the purchase of its first corrugator.
Royal moves to its new location in Cicero. A fire destroys location after only one year, but the Nerenbergs manage to keep ALL of their customers and rebuild.
Royal buys Dynamic Container, a sheet plant in Addison.
Another sheet plant is purchased in Elkhorn Wisconsin, Guardian Container
Royal buys ABC Shipping Supply Company and its 160,000 square foot warehouse. Royal is now able to inventory for its customers and be a single source supplier of corrugated boxes and shipping supplies.
Royal enters into the point of purchase display business with its first order to a large consumer products customer.
Royal purchases The Allen Stone Box Company in Halls, TN.
Royal celebrates its 75th anniversary.
Royal acquires Indiana Box Company, with locations in Montpelier, IN and Greenfield, IN.
Building additions are added to all Royal locations as business grows for the company.
The different facilities start using The Royal Group name to signify the commitment to working together as one team to best satisfy all Royal customers.
The Royal Group adopts the mission to provide value added solutions for the most demanding customers.
The Schwarz family buys The Royal Group from the Nerenberg family. Nerenbergs are thrilled that Royal will continue as a family business for many more generations.
The Royal Group plants and the Schwarz box plants merge together to form the “new” Royal Group, one of the largest independent packaging companies in the industry with l6 locations in the United States.
